MAUI TE TUPUA - JUNIOR PBL 2018

 

The kaupapa for this Kaitiaki-led project is centred around a theatre production called ‘Māui - Te Tupua’.  Taiohi are facilitated by kaitiaki and external experts in various areas and contribute to the final product which is the theatre production. Every taiohi are involved in one of the following areas:

• Acting

• Kapa haka / dance ensemble

• Music - Ukulele and keyboard lessons; band; sound scaping

• Prop making and set design; Technical stage lighting & sound

• Marketing

 

The taiohi have made really good progress and they are enthusiastic about the project.  We are grateful for the support from the Future pathways gateway programme to support itinerant music lessons to take place for our junior taiohi.  Also, Maioha Panapa, a past taiohi and current Waikato University student, has been lending a helping hand with the actors and actresses. We have also had Whaea Tuihana Ohia-Papa teach the kapa haka / dance ensemble some zumba dance moves.  All in all, the external support is very welcomed and is adding great value to the learning experiences of our taiohi.
